New York City Housing Authority employees are walking into tenants’ apartments and making repairs — including nonemergency fixes — without wearing protective masks.

NYCHA officials say the masks are on “backorder.”

We obtained emails of NYCHA building managers trading horror stories of coronavirus taking a toll in absences, illnesses and worse in a housing system where one in five of the 400,000 residents is 62 or older.

“Only 9.2 percent of workers in the lowest quartile of the wage distribution can telework, compared with 61.5 percent of workers in the highest quartile.”
As ProPublica reported, in Milwaukee County, Wis., as of Friday morning, 81 percent of the deaths were black people. Black people make up only 26 percent of that county.

COVID-19 has sadly and profoundly pointed out again the racial and economic disparities of how our society and our economy work and how the need for advocacy and sacrifice from those in positions of safety and privilege
