MLK Day 2020

The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Jan. 20, 2020, marks the 25th anniversary of the day of service that celebrates the Civil Rights leader’s life and legacy. Observed each year on the third Monday in January as

“A day on, not a day off,”

MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities


Around Brooklyn, there are a number of ways you can be involved in serving your community and learning more about the legacy and incredible work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.


Below are links to a number of events and service opportunities happening around our borough and city

  1. The 34th Annual Brooklyn Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr
    Presented by BAM, Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams, and Medgar Evers College of The City University of New York
    Keynote speaker: Nikole Hannah-Jones
    Musical performers: Son Little, Brooklyn Interdenominational Choir
    This full day of free events also includes a screening and an art exhibition entitled Picture the Dream (on view through February 27)

  2. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service to Combat Hunger & Food Insecurity w/ AHRC NYC

  8. Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Prospect Park

    1/20 9am | Visit Prospect Park on MLK Jr. Day to participate in a storytelling hour focused on tales of freedom, go on a nature walk with naturalists, and glide on the Lakeside ice rink!
